Meet the Avon Winter Lineup!

Meet Lisa Duperow from Charmed Abstracts...
My name is Lisa DuPerow and I began working in abstract art/fluid painting & mixed media in 2023 as a form of relaxation and recharging.  I opened "Charmed Abstracts" in August 2024. Transforming everyday objects into meaningful/inspirational art on glass, canvas, wood or jewelry.  Each item is thoughtfully and prayerfully infused with love and intention.  I also offer custom charms to celebrate life's special moments, memories and inspirations - making each piece truly one-of -kind.

My faith, family, special causes and nature inspire my creative spirit.

I never thought of myself as artistic (still have trouble thinking that way haha), but I was looking for a way to relax and recharge after spending many hours caring for others.  I am a registered nurse who works in senior living and dementia care.  As the nursing director, it can be quite overwhelming at times and rewarding.

My husband Mark of 30 years and our amazing son Matt, both encourage and support me to keep pursuing this journey.  They see how happy it makes me.

I plan to retire from nursing in two years and pursue my craft full time.

My message is using art that inspires to bring joy, peace, calm and the reminder that beauty surrounds us every day.

Meet Sarah Bullington...

My name is Sarah Bullington, I am a jewelry artist from Medina Ohio. I am completely blind, and God has gifted me with the ability to make jewelry. My hands are my eyes and my imagination is my vision.

I have been making jewelry on and off since I was a small child, and over the last 15 years I have been focusing more on my art and building my skills.

I am proud to say this is my third year selling at the Avant-Garde Art & Craft Shows.

I create to bring out the visions I keep in my mind. I love to use my imagination of the visual world around me to create something that I can see.

My Papa got me into the craft hobby as a small child. He kept me busy with crafting, especially after I lost my sight at the age of three.

I discovered my talent when I found out there was more to jewelry making than just kids crafting, from the discovery of “adult beads” made from gemstones, crystals and Czech glass, and the numerous techniques I can learn, and I started taking classes and found out which techniques I best work in.

I find inspiration from the world around me, from taking a walk outside listening to birds, listening to the leaves in the wind, feeling and smelling flowers and hugging trees.  Then I find the right materials to bring my vision into a physical form and decide which techniques would work best for the process. I attend a weekly jewelry class at the Chagrin Falls Valley Art Center to make sure the colors I choose match with what I am looking for.

I see myself in the next five years growing my line of jewelry to include other artwork both wearable and for the home, selling in local stores, galleries, online and shows.

My message behind my work is to spread hope, love, peace, and joy by showing how despite my disability that through God nothing is impossible.

Meet Buzzy Bee Troves...
Buzzy Bee Troves was started in October 2024 as a result of my partner and I going on our first cruise. When we returned from our cruise, I wanted to make a scrapbook, no big deal right? Well…that led us to buying our first Cricut machine, which led to 5 more machines and then one day him saying, “I want to make a coffee mug.” That led us down the road to making a multitude of other sublimation items and I was hooked.

Since then, we have made not only coffee mugs but tumblers, coasters for the house and the car, keyrings, greeting cards, earrings, holiday ornaments, and beaded items such as pens, keyrings, and wine stoppers. We have also branched out to offering Blind Date with a Book selections and crochet animals.

We have done one show with Avant-Garde previously and hope to do more in the future. In 5 years, I hope we are still creating and bringing joy to all of our customers.

Meet Connie Sky from Connie Sky Design...

My name is Connie Sky.  2 years ago I made the difficult decision to step down from my corporate position in Human Resources.  I was experiencing challenges with my active and short term memory. This includes trouble with comprehension & following directions.

The first Neurologist diagnosed me with early onset Alzheimer's at the age of 61. A second Neurologist wanted me to do additional testing.  The new diagnosis revealed that the information "just isn't getting into my brain, for me to remember it".  This is a little known illness is called "Small Vessel Disease". I have to hear something 3 to 5 times for me to remember it.
After leaving my job, I felt lost without an identity.  I started searching for a hobby.  Tried painting, crocheting etc.  Nothing stuck, I just wasn't good at anything! Then one day, I decided to bend some wire, maybe wire wrapping jewelry I thought.  While I wasn't good at that, I found a new passion! Using patterns to saw shapes in metal to make pendants & earrings.  Finally, something I can do!!  I began making things for myself, family & friends. Now, my goal is to make copper jewelry for others to enjoy.

Each design is new and creative.  I don't have to remember a lot of details or use complicated formulas.  I just enjoy designing new jewelry and sharing it with others!  It is "Just a Hobby" and my new identity!

Meet Carrie Butler from Homes Apparel Jewelry...

I’ve spent most of my life as a hairstylist, working with color, texture, and design- and that same love for creativity naturally carried over into my jewelry making. I grew up in Rocky River, Ohio spending all summer long on Lake Erie. The lake has always held a special place in my heart. A love that was passed down from my dad. Over the years, I’ve collected countless pieces of beach glass from all over Lake Erie, as far west as Oak Harbor and as far east as Conneaut, Ohio. Now, I transform those treasures into handmade jewelry inspired by the beauty of Lake Erie.

I only recently started making jewelry from my collection of beach glass. What began as a creative outlet quickly turned into a passion, and now a small business that I’m proud to share. This will be my first Avant-Garde Art and Craft Show, and I’m so excited to be part of a community that celebrates handmade artistry and creative expression.

My biggest inspiration comes from Lake Erie itself- the water, the sand and the ever-changing colors of the glass, and the memories I have tied to the lake. Each piece of glass has its own journey, shaped and tumbled by the waves over time. I love turning those small fragments into something meaningful and lasting.

It all started with my love for collecting beach glass. I always saw the beauty in the unique shapes and colors, and I wanted to find a way to share that with others. When I began experimenting with jewelry design, it felt like the perfect blend of creativity and sentiment.

As a hairstylist, I’ve always had an eye for composition- how shapes, colors and textures compliment each other. When I started designing jewelry, that same sense of artistry came naturally. Seeing people connect with the pieces I create made me realize this was something special I could share.

Each piece begins with the glass itself, every piece tells a story. I collect glass from all of our local beaches, Clifton Beach, Bay Boat Club, Bradstreet Landing, Vermilion and many more. I put each piece of beach glass through a tumbler to enhance their natural color and shine. Every piece of jewelry is one-of-a-kind.

I hope to continue growing HOMES Apparel Jewelry- named for the Great Lake, (Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie and Superior). My goal is to share my pieces with more people who feel connected to the lake and its beauty. In five years, I hope to have a strong online presence, participate in more art shows, collaborate with local artists and boutiques, and perhaps have my children more involved in making the jewelry with me.

My jewelry is a tribute to my memories of growing up on Lake Erie and to my dad’s enduring love for the lake. The lucky stones, in particular, remind me that even the smallest pieces of the past can carry luck, love and meaning.

Avon Spring Lineup Preview!

Meet Cassie Brown from Sassy's Sweets...

My name is Cassie Brown I’m a full time social studies teacher and owner of a home bakery known as Sassy’s Sweets. I started baking more as a way to decompress after the work week and created baked goods my family, friends, and co-workers would enjoy. I began taking requests which led me to try new recipes and perfect them as time went on. After being the go to baker for most people in my life, I got the idea to venture out to sell these baked goods for even more people to enjoy!

I have been seriously focused on my baking skill set for the past three years, taking classes and practicing my skill set but only began selling in the last year.

My inspiration to create usually derives from requests of my family or friends, especially those with allergies that have difficulty having traditional baked goods found in most stores and bakeries. I enjoy recreating baked goods with ingredients they can safely consume!
I got into baking by trying to recreate nostalgic recipes from my childhood that my mom or grandmothers created. Once I realized how much I enjoyed it as a way to decompress and how much joy it brought others, it really began to become more of an elaborate hobby!

My creative process usually involves me taking successful parts of other recipes, talking to family about flavors or recipes they enjoy, then looking online for further inspiration to create the final product.
My five year goal.. in five years, I hope to still be a home baker with a consistent client base.

The message behind my work is one of commitment to quality and a dedication to not just excellent quality baked goods with traditional ingredients but also to allergy friendly goods that most people can enjoy!

Meet Angel from Macrame Revival...
Hey everyone I'm Angel from Macrame Revival. I first heard of macrame several years ago from my hairdresser when she showed me a photo of a hanging she liked. I said I don't know what that is but I need to learn it. I really got into it about two years ago. However, I didn't start doing any shows until last year.
I've always had the crafty gene, which I got from my mom, although, she only made jewelry. I decided to start with knitting after I had my 2nd child about 24 years ago. I learned by reading a book, which was difficult because there werent any video tutorials back then! Once I got tired of knitting I moved on to crochet, which I also learned by reading books. I stuck with that because I found it much easier than knitting.

Every time I get bored of a craft I try to learn a new one which is how I started learning macrame. I fell head over heels in love and never turned back. I am however considering adding in some weaving to my projects.
I would describe my style as boho chic mixed with a little disco queen (I love disco balls). At the end of the day I just want to put a smile on your face when you look at my products. If this interests you, stop by and see what I have to offer!

I'm excited to be in my very first Avant-Garde show April 20th and can't wait to meet you. You can check out my socials if you'd like to see more. I do tutorials on Tik Tok, I also have Facebook and Instagram accounts where I post my finished projects.

Meet Marie Doris from Rie's Original Art...
I'm a newly semi-retired hospital eeg, stress technician at Southwest hospital. I now watch my granddaughter full time during the school year.
I've just recently started my painting journey, I started updating furniture for family and friends around 4 years ago.  Last spring, when I ran out of furniture lol, I decided to try painting on canvas.I have always had an interest in art, and I am so glad I pursued this.

This will be my first Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show, I hope it will be the first of many. This is more of an enjoyable hobby than a business!

Jump Start Your Holiday Shopping!

Meet Lesley Jones from Cafe L Spice Blends...

In 2017, I created a Curry powder blend to give to my food-loving mates at work. They loved that first blend and I discovered I loved the creative process: researching, grinding, measuring, adjusting and ultimately the total sensory experience of Spice and the magic it brings to the Table. Our world of diverse cultures and cuisines offers endless inspiration. Hence, that one blend in 2017 became four and at last count fourteen.

My spice adventure began many years ago when I had my first Indian meal. I fell in love with the food and the flavors and I had to find out how to cook like that. Back then, the Food Network was very different than it is now. There were cooking shows on ALL DAY. So when I had to spend three months at home recovering from a knee injury, I became acquainted with Emeril, Martha, Mario, Rachel, Alton, the original Iron Chef show and so many others. I was in cooking heaven. Then came the travel shows with Andrew Zimmern and Anthony Bourdain introducing me to a whole new world of different food cultures.
This will be my first show with Avant-Garde and I am so excited! I love chatting with people about using spice. Honestly, talking about food and cooking is one of my favorite things to do! Many folks I meet are hesitant about using spice. They say “I don’t know what to use it in.” Trying new flavors shouldn’t be scary. I tell them there are no rules. Chinese Five Spice doesn’t have to be used in just Chinese dishes. Sprinkle some on the burgers you’re grilling. Add some Adobo to your mac & cheese. You won’t know if it works for you unless you try it!
My mission has always been to introduce my fellow home cooks to spice blends that will enhance their meals. Try new flavors. Make it bold or subtle or somewhere in between. Cafe L Spice Blends are authentic and full of flavor.

Meet Carole Adipietro from Sticks and Stones Candle Co...
Hello!  My name is Carole Adipietro and I’ve always loved making arts and crafts! I wanted to learn how to make candles, so I started to research the process and spent almost one year producing many different combinations of candle containers, wax, wicks and fragrance oils before finding the best option for me and my values.

I’ve been selling candles for two years and my focus is to use products that are earth-friendly which is why I chose a coconut/soy blend wax for candles and fire-starters, and 100% soy wax for wax melts.  I use great care in selecting fragrance oils as well.  None of my products contain paraffin, phthalates or vanillins.

This is my first Avant-Garde craft fair of which I’m excited to participate in! I really like selling at craft fairs throughout my community because it’s so nice to see the expressions on people’s faces when they smell the different scents of candles that I offer! I am a vendor in two local consignment shops as well.

While I currently work full-time, I’ve been giving thought to future retirement, which will include expanding my candle business and volunteering for food delivery to seniors and shut-ins.

Meet Dalia Hamed from Craftopia...

It's the Holiday Season.. to SHOP!

Meet Brian Bakos from J and B Artistic Notions...

Jenny Koschack and Brian Bakos are the co-founders of J and B Artistic Notions.  Both of us are quirky and creative, so we decided to brand Artistic Notions and begin to come up with whimsical pieces of art with ideas we both love. We take ideas or items we love, and put them into whimsical pieces of art using coffee as a medium and acrylic paint.

We find the inspiration to create through the joy in the little moments, along with the natural surroundings, and lots of coffee! Now, we want to share these joyful moments with others.

We both have been creating with different mediums since childhood and professionally for several years. After a period of time, our family and friends would continue to ask us to create and design artwork for them, which led to us discovering our talent for creating.

We have participated in two Avant-Garde shows previously, and are so excited to be back for a third. We also are currently working towards opening our own gallery/studio.

We hope that through our work, we encourage people to be joyful in life, and share those moments with others.

Meet Jordan Barnett from Scorched Timber...

Hello! My name is Jordan Barnett and I am a web developer, musician, and audio engineer. This is my short candle story. I sort of stumbled into the candle world as a "scratch-your-own-itch" situation. I had spent a year looking for a specific scent, but I could not find it. I ordered candles from all over the world - even Paris. Still I couldn't find what I was looking for - thus began the journey into making candles.

We have been making candles for about five years now. Looking back on how I first discovered my "talent" for candle making, I realized that I believe that "talent" is a fancy world for not giving up on something that you are obsessed with. If you put the time in, people will eventually call it talent when they see the results.

Organization is having a free, open space to create, and it is vital to digging in deep and getting your hands dirty. I work best when I have the the creative space to do it.

This is our first Avant-Garde show, but hopefully we will attend many more! We would love to grow our little company into something much larger. Our philosophy is one step at a time though. Also, remember quality and reflection matter. It is there where we get to re-learn about ourselves all over again.

Meet Nick Lime from Lime Skincare Co...

Hi! My name is Nick Lime, and I am the creator of Lime Skincare Co. I am a student business owner, and I love to formulate and create new products whenever I can. I started making skincare products at age 10, and ever since I've loved doing it. I loved to attend vendor shows, and support small businesses... so I took what I love to do and made a hobby out of it.

This will be my first Avant-Garde Show that I will be attending, and I am so excited to share my work with everyone. The opportunity that I have to be able to create clean and safe skincare products for my community inspires me on the daily.

I have always loved to try out different skincare products so I decided to start experimenting with some recipes and I fell in love with it. Each one of my products start out with a "hey it would be cool to make that," and then I research and do a deep dive into that product. After my research, I formulate for what seems like forever until I make the perfect product.

Through my products, I want to educate people on the importance of clean skincare products, and why you should care about what is in them that can make them dangerous. I also want to provide people with the opportunity to enjoy safe, clean, and authentic skin care products.

Meet Cara Romano from Gopi Girl Designs...

Hello, my name is Cara. I am a lifelong artist, and I teach drawing and painting classes. I grew up in Oberlin, Ohio. Now I live in Cleveland with my husband, step-daughter, and our small zoo of pets. I love creating art, listening to and playing music, enjoying nature, traveling, and animals.

I have been making jewelry for about 12 years. I’ve sold some here and there, but I am new to showing and selling at art and craft shows. I signed up for my first two Avant-Garde shows this year, the Solon Holiday Market was my first and Avon will be my second.

I get inspired by art and design (both historical and contemporary) from various cultures across the globe. I am interested in how people adorn themselves, both in daily life and for special occasions. Music is also a big influence. I used to work in the museum field. Seeing jewelry from all over the world inspired me to try making my own. I began with a silversmithing class, and eventually developed a love for assembling and constructing jewelry from beads and other found objects. I love to use my hands and I especially love working on a small scale – whether it’s making jewelry or detailed drawings – these types of activities give me a feeling of satisfaction and control.

I thank my parents who were always encouraging me to create. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t draw, paint, sculpt, assemble, etc. I always want to try different media to see what I like. I am also really interested in combining media, often in unlikely or unexpected ways. My creativity is usually sparked by the beads or stones I have in my collection. I like to make series of pieces that use similar materials and techniques. One piece will inspire another. I really like to try unusual combinations of beads, findings, wiring, and found objects.

In the future, I would like to attend shows regularly, and travel around the country (maybe the world?) to share my creations. I am interested in partnering and collaborating with other artists, whether that is in a coop or collective type of setting, or possibly collaborating in the design process. I also want to develop my metalsmithing skills and incorporate them into my beaded jewelry.

I hope to inspire my customers to see that beauty can be found in unlikely places, through unique combinations of opposing elements. Art should make a statement about the individual creator/owner/wearer, but we can’t forget that it has the power to unify people from all walks of life, from all over the world.

Meet Tina Evans from Sweet Beautiful You...

Hello, my name is Tina Evans. My friend Jan and I started Sweet Beautiful You in 2019 when we started learning about the damage the chemicals and preservatives in many household products were causing us.

We began making soaps from natural ingredients such as coconut oil, olive oil & shea butter. We use a cold process method that helps to retain all the natural benefits of each plant based oil and butter. This process also naturally produces a bar high in glycerin, making it very moisturizing. Our products are free of any parabens, sulfates, and other harsh chemicals.

This is our first Avant-Garde event, and we are very excited to share our mission at this event - which is to help women love and accept themselves as they were created. We encourage women to not only protect themselves from the harsh chemicals in commercial skincare products, but also from the harsh words we tend to speak to ourselves. We are passionate about natural beauty, both inside and out!

A portion of our profits are donated to a women's shelter in Akron, Ohio. We visit that shelter monthly to remind these women that they are beautiful, and that their current circumstance does not define them. We also teach them how to make a natural skincare product that they can use and make for themselves again.

We are Sweet Beautiful You - making natural products for a naturally Beautiful You!
